Tibet - why China “invaded”.

Tibet- had always been under suzerainty of China. In 1904 Britain and Russia signed a treaty recognising that. Britain, which had been destroying China tried to move in on Tibet, which provided not only access to invade China, but also control of its water. Britain was literally installing troops.

Here’s a short sampling of what Britain had been doing to China before that (ignore the title - culture wars simply distract from the true nature of what the Western colonists, particularly Britain, did to China):

While I don’t support China’s actions from the point of view of Tibet’s self determination, it was Britain’s aggression that caused it, and China’s action was to stop Britain, not to oppress Tibet as it is portrayed.

In contrast to US annexing or destroying colonies and neighbours like Puerto Rico, Cuba, China has built it up taking it out of a theocracy with 80% poverty (which US and Britain never tried to do).

Unlike Puerto Rico, Tibet gets to vote in national elections. Puerto Rico is nothing more than a resource slave to the US where the Puerto Ricans are kept in abject poverty, and still being driven off the little land they have left.

Britain, Russia and Japan had all been taking large swathes of China’s territories.

What Britain did is analogous to China subverting and sending troops into Ireland or Scotland before England finally conquered them and fully amalgamated them.

Tibet should be looked at as a historic case calling for self determination, not some crime committed by China in 1950.

I never thought I’d find economics interesting, until I found out that money is made out of thin air by a few random privileged individuals for their own profit, and dispensed to whom they choose.

I was fascinated by a discussion by Dr Michael Hudson in The Balance of Payments Illusion: How America Makes Money Without Paying - YouTube.

So I did a dive into what “capitalism” really was. What I found is set out below.

While Dr Hudson’s whole talk is highly recommended, Here are two of the side issues he discussed, which caught my interest, in which he appeared to juxtapose capitalism with “rentier” or rental. So I did a dive into what capitalism actually was. The surprising results are set out below.

The change of meaning of Capitalism

My question: “Did capitalism originally have a different meaning under classical economic theory, which did not include rentier and stock market trading?“

They want wars. So they can enrich themselves while the world is distracted. Here's one point where the World broke through - with help from New Zealand, Malaysia, Senegal and Venezuela. This continues the theme of why there will be no peace while the UN is violating its own Charter - procured and continued by America, to further its own hegemony.

The formation of the United Nations involved the creation of universal human rights, self determination in the form of equal sovereign self-governing states free from external interference and aggression, with the collateral territorial integrity; and freedom from aggression and subjugation, to pursue economic development and trade and eliminate poverty.

The fatal mistake made by America was to insist on the USSR, a violent empire, being given control of the United Nations, the alliance between all our governments, disabling our ability to enforce the law.

The USSR took full advantage of this. Between 1945 and 1970 it used its veto 80 times to block U.N. power. In the same period the UK did so 4 times, France twice, and the US and China zero times. Further, the USSR illegally blocked the formation of UN standing forces, the means to suppress international aggression, which was required by Articles 43, 45 and 47 of the United Nations Charter.

This had the effect of giving the established US corporate and military industrial empire the excuse to convince the American people to agree to massive arms escalation and seizure of hegemony from the UN, which enabled them to continue to destroy and subjugate other sovereign countries - annexing and enslaving some like Puerto Rico and Hawaii, and just enslaving others for labour and resources such as South America and Africa1.

When the USSR was abolished by all of its former members on 21 December 1991, the US was in a quandary. Its bad cop was gone, and the veto the bad cop had used was extinguished by operation of long established International Law, explicitly confirmed by both the UN Secretary-General’s legal opinion and the UN General Assembly’s declaration of the law “to apply in the future”2.

But the US already had a solution: the exact same lie it had used for 22 years to block China exercising its membership. Just lie that Russia was a member, the same as it had lied that Taiwan was a member.

One would have thought that the other ~190 members, who did not want war, poverty and human rights abuses, would be wiser. So, the US procured that the issue never came before the members, it was never discussed, and the members were bullied with nuclear threats into never raising the issue.

That continues until this day. Russia, a non-member, whose government was broken and it's brief prospect of democracy was destroyed by US so-called “shock therapy” ensuring that power was transferred to corrupt oligarchs, remains under US control - under the threat of exposing the fraud, which would remove all Russia’s international hegemony. Russia would no longer be able to block the UN from enforcing international law against it.

Over the next 3 decades the US corporate oligarchs consolidated power over information - so that the US fraud and imperialism — which it developed from military, to financial, into information, colonialism — would never be exposed.

So, the good cop-bad cop farce continued, and the wealth stripping continued with the world’s public ignorant and powerless, spreading from country to country, weakening and enslaving governments. Corrupting India, South Africa, and numerous smaller colonised states.

Until Ukraine’s government threatened to expose it, on 8 February 2022 . Ever so gently - they did not mention the established law. They did not mention the simple resolution that had cured the US lie in relation to China - which cannot be vetoed. They simply obliquely mentioned a question.

At which point it became imperative, for Russia, US, and their financial colonist cronies in Europe, to neutralise the Ukrainian government and ensure none was ever elected again by the staunchly anti-corruption Ukrainian people.

And so, we had the 2022 Russian invasion, explicitly green-lighted by the Biden administration3, and implicitly green-lighted by NATO, starving Ukraine of the means to defend itself. The network of spiders, talking but not acting, giving Russia every opportunity to accomplish its goal of subjugating Ukraine — and with it, the power of the UN to enforce human rights, sovereign equality, and territorial safety.

When Russia botched the takeover, its cronies supplied just enough actual aid to stifle public outrage and make Ukraine forever financially controlled. A nice example of how the good cop-bad cop tactic gets turned by the disinformation industry into a complete fiction, completely fooling the public and distracting us from them taking our own human rights and our collective (national) power, security and wealth. There was a suspicious rise in hate media against the National Government.

Trump simply ignored the UN, moved the US embassy to Jerusalem, and supported the violation of the UN resolution.

“Wealth tax” is a manipulation of the concept’s appearance to make it look undesireable. Let’s call it by its real name: excess wealth tax.

Here is the economic reason for the world’s dire economic and political state.

(Complementing the dovetailed removal of human rights - economic and political1, enabled and driven by most fundamental, the removal of our right to the truth2.)

The reason countries are in economic disaster is not government policies which benefit the poor. Or government policies which benefit everyone. Both of those create economic growth, and wealth.

It’s government policies which benefit the super-rich, or more aptly named, the malignant greedy. Who do not create wealth, but extract it from those who create it - the workers, the inventors, the entrepreneurs who start and grow new businesses offering real growth; and from everyone else by price-gouging and destruction of our health and environment, and civil and political rights and protections. The super-rich shut down competition and protection of others which threaten their wealth. Because the primary goal of the malignantly greedy is to take as much wealth from everyone else as possible. Their mentality is that of the criminal, not of normal people.

So, why not tax the excess wealth itself, instead of the creation of wealth? Or just changes in it?

We don’t want to stop means of gaining wealth, we want to encourage that. Everyone should have wealth! Without wealth there is no personal security and no ability to create wealth. Give a poor person security and opportunity, and they will want to improve. Wealth is essential!

And — the malignantly greedy can and will restructure their behaviours to choose different means of taking wealth, so the only ones penalised are everyone else.

We only want to target excess wealth.

That is where the focus must lie when considering how to remedy countries’ economic disasters.

Capital gains tax, like income tax, targets those struggling to establish their own security. It impedes advancement. They can’t afford expensive accountants to evade it. Thus it is a barrier to wealth equalisation.

Excess wealth tax, as it says, targets only those with excess wealth.

Capital gains can be hidden by accountants, unrealised.

Wealth can’t be so easily.

Transaction taxes - again, can be avoided by the wealthy, but not by everyone else.

“We can’t value wealth”

Oh yes we can.

The real problem isn’t that wealth is hard to define, it’s that we’ve allowed the richest people to structure their finances in ways that deliberately obscure ownership, income, and accountability. What the assertion fails to identify, and in fact perpetuates, is the idea that this opacity is just an unfortunate technical hurdle. It’s not. It’s a policy choice, enabled by decades of legislation written to protect capital from scrutiny. And the solution is simple: if profits are being made and we don’t know who is claiming them, we tax those profits at 100% until someone comes forward. That one rule would end the game of hide and seek overnight. Because the only reason to hide profit is to avoid responsibility for it, and in a fair system, you shouldn’t get to keep what you apparently "don’t own".

Any problems of ownership and valuation should not be an excuse to not tax wealth. Capital gains are means for startups to obtain wealth. Taxing the means to obtain wealth (including wages) should be avoided as it is a barrier to productivity; the emphasis should be on excess wealth, because that is where the fruits of production are accumulated excessively. Allow wealth to be accrued but not too much. Tax idle excess wealth higher than excess wealth utilised in real production (as opposed to rents).

Ownership: It seems just a pen stroke to require registration of ownership. Then just tax the registered owners and let them pass it on, unless someone else comes forward. If it come to a forced sale, the ultimate owner can register and pay the amount owing, plus costs of enforcement, to release it. Just make sure enforcement is timely so the debt is recoverable. What are the super-rich going to do? Get one set of different trustees (who don't own any other property) for each property they own? That's going to be pretty funny. Also, tax wealth funds, not individual holders. That should incentivise small investors to avoid them. Have an "unless" tax: put the onus on the owners to identify themselves if they want lower tax.

Valuation: councils have been valuing properties for decades. What problem. Same for shares and equities , tax them on a daily valuation basis over the year - easy for a computer. Businesses - are valued every day. Controlling shares - simply use a formula based on the taxable profit of the company plus benefit of loans to owners. Let’s have some consistency instead of condoning fraud: . Insurance valuations and valuations to obtain those loans should be the basis of taxes. Nothing is magic or insurmountable.

Don’t let the perfect be the enemy of the good

It doesn't matter if we capture every penny of net worth (or the value of their spoons) for tax purposes - that's just a classic case of letting the perfect be the enemy of the good. Property and land values are straight forward, there's a whole profession dedicated to it. For debating the value of the assets and tracing ownership of companies, UK’s HMRC already have the High Net Worth (HNW) unit and the Offshore, Corporate and Wealthy unit (OCW) unit to investigate these things. Let's get the ball rolling instead of standing around doing nothing debating the value of spoons.

There is probably an insurance policy on that expensive piece of art against theft / damages, it can be set as the price level for taxation. And for stock holders they get a yearly report with the latest portfolio valuation. In The Netherlands that's used as the basis for taxation. There's a imagined-performance (set by the government) and that is being taxed.

I really don’t know where to start about this.

Trump and the Republicans’ trumpeting of “election fraud” is, as seems almost inevitably the case with their accusations, what they actually are doing and have been doing for generations. In the 2024 election it is almost certain in my mind that it caused the wrong candidate to “win”.

A brief aside on 2c - social media campaign brainwashing electors

You are never going to get through to people by heaping truth on an ocean of lies. "Low information" people are able to understand the truth easily. But they don't have time to sieve through a mass of lies fact checking every thing they hear, to find it.

I can understand young people accepting lies as acceptable, they have been taught that and have known nothing else. What I don't understand is people who saw SCOTUS invent a right to lie, overturning centuries of settled law, just like DOBBS, accepting it.

Democrats can save their hand-wringing about their conduct of the election. Harris did an almost impeccable job. There was a gap in explaining previous policies to voters, and the larger picture, but it didn’t matter, because by then no one was listening.

In July 2024, on the other side of the world, in NEW ZEALAND, our small private Facebook group of criminal lawyers, was receiving “notifications” from someone we were not friends with and had not authorised notifications from.

These notifications told us that our posts would be prioritised (“more discoverable”) and we would reach a greater audience if we liked and commented on the posts linked in the notification.

There was no indication whom the notifications were from - unlike normal notifications.

When the links were clicked each was a different fake/adulterated videos misrepresenting the US President Biden as senile and incompetent. With captions like “the lights are on but no one’s home”.

The video pages contained a promotion at the top urging viewers to follow Donald Trump and a link to do so. Of course once they did that, their feeds would be deluged with Trump’s disinformation uploads.

FB interfered in the US election with unsolicited unauthorised "notifications", for Trump. Since the target post was a fake, intending to deceive voters, it is #ElectionFraud, by #Facebook.

I don’t look at social media feeds. However my own son, and Iranian PHD flatmates (who had fled from their tyrannical regime) obviously did. They had been sending videos like these and the Biden paedophile etc clips to me for months or years. They were both ranting about “Hunter Biden’s laptop” although neither had any idea what it was about. They both were scathing of Biden and were strongly convinced he was very bad: and Trump was good, even though they read nothing of and had no interest in US politics or events.

It did not enter their minds that they were being fed fakes. The flatmate actually started shouting at me and wouldn’t listen when I tried to tell him they were fakes, and tried to explain how disinformation is spread.

The UN is never going to work if countries are secretly sabotaging each other outside it. Just like no domestic government could work if everyone ignores it and attacks each other.

There should be no right to secrecy for crimes. I have seen it claimed there's no evidence anyone has suffered through Assange’s publication of materials re Iraq (though there may have been deniable occurrences). Overall I think it was good Assange exposed all of the info. It gave an opportunity to reassess what was going on, and the overall entire venture was bad. There should be far more openness and consultation, Foreign affairs missed out on being democratised. It should be the subject of a separate vote.

As to Hillary Clinton’s emails, they are public interest. (If the USA chooses to create a “right” to lie about her emails, that’s a separate problem.) There should be only the most limited protections along existing general legal principles: commercial sensitivity, public safety etc. All temporary with a sunset provision.

People with information become responsible. People without become tribal.

Was/is Assange ”pro Russian”?

Well, I don’t know, yet.

Darth Putin repeats says Assange's comment was made in 2016. Navalny was criticising Putin and campaigning for election until poisoned in August 2020 (3 months before Trump was voted out). "Putin's Palace" was released by Navalny 2021.

Assange's perception was justified in 2016.

A new structure for foreign affairs

Finally, the truth about Russia’ trespass on the UN is STARTING to emerge. The Iraq fiasco was exposed by Assange. Israel is up in arms about the murder of Gaza. Africa, South America, Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, Libya, Serbia, Syria, most of Africa have been unmitigated disasters.

They, not to mention the colonialism that preceded them, have been non-democratic ill-advised decisions by people vitiated by both ignorance and self-interest.

Half of the solution is knowing the problem. The next 40% is publicising it, so the public of the world can discuss, lobby, vote on, and oversee a solution.

This is the tip of the iceberg of the problem.

When you realise that, after the great (embryonic) democratic reform of the United Nations in 1945, the backslide into Chinese autocracy and cold war,

(a) The current disasters and world misery and concomitant immigration problems took their current form in 1991 with the destruction of change towards democracy in Russia, led by Yeltsin.  Propped up by USA, AGAINST the Russian people.

And the lynch pin of the problem, is the continuing violation of the UN Charter by the lie that Russia is in the UN – which set up everything that followed, arming the Kremlin with the influence to spread corruption and terror, to be an object of admiration and emulation by vulnerable regimes, and also with the fictitious power to prevent the UN performing the peacekeeping function it was set up to perform.

The only cure for this is for the UNGA to formally recognise the violation and for the Charter to be enforced. 

(b)           The root cause of this corruption is outdated foreign policy administration structures in “democratic” Western governments. Those systems only democratised internal affairs.  Their external affairs remained designed to enable colonial crimes to be committed in secret, without transparency or answerability, without knowledge or control by citizens, “for the good of the country”.  

When the UN essentially abolished colonialism, the structures of these foreign affairs machineries became unfit for purpose. And were abused, as secrecy always is.

The only cure for this is

(i) Recognition that it is primarily USA, not Russia, which is culpable for enabling this state of affairs.

(ii)           The constitutions and internal laws of all countries, but the US in particular, to be made compliant with the UN treaties they have ratified. It is time for an amendment to the US Constitution forbidding US from acts in other sovereign territories that would violate US obligations under international law, or would violate the Constitution if committed in the US.

(iii)          And it is time to amend the secrecy legislation to provide that secrecy does NOT apply to criminal acts.

(iv)          Foreign affairs should ideally be separated from the executive and directly elected, making foreign policy answerable to citizens (i.e. REMOVING it from control of invisible 5th column influences). 

(v)           (Underlying all of this, of course, is the bizarre structure of US Presidential elections which seem to prevent any candidates standing other than the bizarre results of the 2 major parties – an internal matter of US which has repercussions for the whole world). 

This alpha male warmongering has got to stop, by eliminating the underlying causes and opportunity.  Once gone, the freed resources It has sucked will make eliminating countries' domestic problems easy.

But what about spies and espionage?

Our legal systems make provision for undercover investigations of crimes.

There is no reason the legal checks and controls on those should not be applied also to external investigations and enforcement. Routing actions through the ICC rather that underground operatives will be far more effective in resolving disputes and minimising crime than essentially having gang wars between regimes outside the law.

It will become self-perpetuating as respect for it is gained.

A new structure for governmental secrecy and privacy

Public servants should have no greater rights to privacy than corporate employees.

Surveillance overall should be reversed as between public servants and the public. Public servants should have every aspect of their life public or at least monitored.

Conversely, there is good reason for protecting private members of the public from surveillance (other than collection of anonymous statistical data) as it is almost inevitably abused by those in power to control or persecute or exploit them. Personal lives of the public are not generally able to affect society as a whole, unless they are engaged in criminal activity.

There was no right to privacy in early democratic structures such as Ukraine’s het-men, who were elected by the community they lived in.

Public service is a choice. If people have something to hide, they are not fit for the position.
